After being confirmed as U.S. Secretary of Energy, Jennifer Granholm made her first official travel outside of Washington, D.C. in May 2021. She couldn’t get to Texas, and 69ÌÃ, fast enough!

As a leader in hydrogen energy for the past 60 years, 69ÌÃ hosted Secretary Granholm at our LaPorte Industrial Complex just outside of Houston to highlight sustainable energy solutions and the important role that hydrogen has to play in the energy transition. During her visit, Secretary Granholm acknowledged hydrogen as a huge opportunity to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, especially for traditionally hard-to-abate sectors.

During the site visit, Secretary Granholm also made it a point to speak with 69Ìà employees from plant operator to plant manager. Hydrogen’s potential to transform industry is clear - and so is its potential to boost our economy by creating jobs that are innovative, sustainable and at the forefront of the energy landscape of the future -- jobs that 69Ìà is proud to offer.

Just a few short weeks after the Secretary’s visit to 69ÌÃ, the Department of Energy launched its Energy Earth Shot initiative with the Hydrogen Shot as the first program. The Hydrogen Shot aims to reduce the cost of clean hydrogen by 80% to $1 per 1 kilogram in 1 decade ("1 1 1").

("1 1 1") $1 per 1 kilogram in 1 decade
